Could the universe have remained lifeless?

No, because that would go against the idea that the aim of the universe is beauty.

A simulation of life on earth is the purpose why the universe exists.

A conscious being - God - creates and recreates the universe to keep Him - used in a genderless sense - company.

The universe is also the stage on which a simulation takes place. The simulation from our point of view is to praise God as much as possible while we are on trial on earth.

What God is looking out for is sincere friendship, adoration and love from humans.

The universe exists in the mind of God. From another point of view God continually blows out a different the universe at every moment- without tiring of course. No time passes between each blow. God stands above time, as well as space and matter.

Schematically, God blows the universe as shown below.

That above image shows the flower of life configuration which is the root of existence.

The universe is imbued with beauty in its reflection of the geometry known as the flower of life.

God is eternal and existed before He - used as a genderless pronoun - invented time.

The above picture illustrates that space which is represented by the circle is expressible in terms of a vertical component, which is time, and a horizontal component which is matter.

The entire set up above is to effectively bring about human beings which can be represented by the electrocardiogram shown below.

Beauty in the eyes of God is to exhibit behavior which sincerely reflects integrity. God is pleased with the character that reflects integrity.

The test is such that it entails a reaffirmation of integrity and frequent repentance while savoring participation in the cosmic configuration through praises to God.

Above feelings of awe towards God are feelings of love and elation, all of which are within everyone’s capacity to participate and reflect.

All that a person need is a sense of gratitude and observance of decorum - meaning respecting etiquette - in order to begin a personal relationship with God.

A sense of gratitude is - strategy - associated with intelligence whereas observance of decorum is associated with the will - the call to action.

All of the above is an explanation of the cosmic complexion to reflects God’s intention which refutes the notion that the universe could remain lifeless.

God is using the universe as a mirror to view Himself.
